Following over 20 years of civil war, approximately 11% of Burundi's population are orphans. Iwacu Kazoza provides shelter, education and hope for the future to over 500 students, many of whom are orphaned. Iwacu Kazoza is currently expanding its outreach with numerous medical and educational programs to benefit hundreds more.
Kwitaho, which means 'To Care About,' provides an extremely meaningful cup and is two fold. First, the simple purchase of the green coffee supports Burundi's struggling economy of which 90% of the population is involved in agriculture and 40% of the gross domestic produce comes from coffee and tea, of which coffee is the number one export crop. The coffee industry has played a major role in stabilizing the country after periods of civil unrest.
Second, over 75% of the proceeds are donated to Iwacu Kazoza in support of its mission to provide hope and improved education to its students.
Thank you for your support and we will provide updates regarding the school as they are provided to us from Prosper Ndabishuriye, the Founder of JRMD/YRWD.
All donations made to the JRMD projects go through the Global Giving Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 entity located in Washington DC which is rated 4 out of 4 stars by Charity Navigator for transparency and financial filing.
