SF Lineage Mug - The Meeting

On October 12, 1961, President Kennedy made a trip to the United States Special Warfare Center and School where he met with Brigadier General Yarborough who was wearing the Green Beret against the wishes of some in the Army Chain of Command.

Seeing the General JFK asked “Those are nice. How do you like the Green Beret?"  Yarborough replied, "They're fine, Sir. We've wanted them a long time."

Soon after the meeting President Kennedy authorized the “Green Beret” as the official headgear for US Army Special Forces which is how members of The Regiment have been called since.

On April 11, 1962 JFK published an official White House Memorandum to the US Army stating in part “The Green Beret is again becoming a symbol of excellence, a badge of courage, a mark of distinction in the fight for freedom.
